There was a lot of talk about the shirt deal during the season, when Nike edged out New Balance by offering a five-year deal, ending a six-year partnership. Liverpool started the season strongly and led the league, breaking the club history record for the longest unbeaten home streak in the league in November 2020 (63 matches).
However, at the turn of the year, the team ran into difficulties and won only three games
from the next 14 matches, which took them out of the Eurocup places. Towards the end of the season, however, Liverpool found their top form, winning eight of the last 10 matches. These moments included goalkeeper Alisson's historic extra-time winner against West Bromwich - the first goal scored by a goalkeeper in Liverpool's 129-year history. The team eventually finished third and secured a place in the next season's Champions League.
